After suffering over the last few weeks with a terrible cold or whatever it is we have been stricken with, Calli and I had the opportunity to visit the new Zig Zag Zoo for a few hours with some friends! We left Marin at home with her Dad because we thought she might have pink eye and decided to save other people from the headache of a potentially very contagious kid. (In the end, Marin didn't have anything wrong with her - YAY!!)
The Zig Zag Zoo opened up a few months ago and is a hoot for the kids. It's a giant climbing/sliding/tunnel-crawling contraption. All surfaces are padded and the kids can literally climb all over it without ever touching the floor!! It's awesome. When we drove across Canada in the summer, we played on one in our hotel in Winnipeg. It's a perfect way to pass the afternoon when the weather is -37 with the wind chill!!
Yesterday we went to Gus's 4th birthday celebration! Gus and Calli have been fast friends since meeting in December. They get along incredibly well and considering we never really had any boy friends in PR, we are excited to bring in the new dynamic of a boy for playtime! It's not all Barbies and Polly Pockets anymore, although Gus thought the Polly Pocket car was pretty cool...even re-claiming it after Marin showed interest in playing with it. Instead of birthday cake, Gus and his guests were treated to vanilla ice cream topped with brownies, chocolate sauce, mini marshmallows, whipped cream and sprinkles!! I swear the homemade chocolate sauce that Gus's dad made was the best I've ever tasted!
Marin had fun running around with the other 2 little girls at the party. She was fascinated by this little guitar, even though it didn't make the most melodious sounds! I guess having Adam constantly playing the air guitar is really paying off!
Calli had a go with the guitar as well. She sat by herself for a little while strumming and singing a little tune. She sincerely thought she was playing the guitar. It was very sweet.
When we got home, the girls were ready for a little snack. They sat down in the kitchen and ate their apple together. The kitchen is a No Nellie Zone, so I guess they felt safe with their snack in there. Nellie is often found having a little nibble of rice cakes or crackers from Marin's hand. Marin will become distracted from eating and Nellie finds this to be the perfect opportunity to grab a quick bite! Marin never sees it coming.
Adam and I went through the car wash the other day and had to deal with this sign. I guess they just don't want English speaking customers? We did press the ENTER button just in case, but the automated lady still gave us directions in French. I'm sure you'll see, as we did, there is no # sign on the keypad....Hmmmm....
