WHOA Nellie!!!

After repeated requests for more photos and stories from silly little Nellie, I feel obliged to obey!

Nellie has been keeping us extremely busy. She is doing SO well with potty training, it's amazing!! She loves to play outside and tear around the yard ripping dead leaves and branches from the garden then lay down to snack on them. This wouldn't be a big deal normally, but we still have no snow! We had another freezing rain storm the other day which luckily did not produce the same amount of damage as the last episode. It then warmed up and rained the next morning, so the ground is complete SOG! Our backyard is like a wet bog and Nellie thinks it's great fun to run around and splash through the puddles as hard as she can!

She is growing so quickly and we can tell already that her legs are stretching out! She is quite good with the kids, but Calli has taken a bit longer with exerting her voice and being brave enough to face the dog. She prefers to stay well beyond arms length from Nellie, but will snuggle and pet her when she's calm and/or sleeping! Marin will push Nellie and stick out her hand saying "NO Nellie!!" if the dog gets in her way. She's not about to let a puppy get in the way of whatever she is playing with or doing!

This morning Calli was in the living room with Nellie while I made breakfast when I heard Calli say "Mom, Nellie is running around the house like a maniac!!!!" I couldn't tell you where she'd heard that expression before... Calli has a little desk that she sometimes sits in for breakfast, while watching cartoons. Nellie has discovered that she can stretch her head up from under the desk and possibly sneak a bite of whatever delicious concoction Calli is devouring. Because of this, Calli now sits on her heels in her desk to block out the dog from coming up and stealing her food, and to prevent her from biting her feet. Nellie hasn't always been successful in grabbing morsels of food, but I haven't seen anything so funny as when Calli had crepes for breakfast and Nellie's nose snuck up from under the table and grabbed a strip of crepe...It had been in a nice little roll on her plate, but was unravelled and snapped up by Nellie!

Calli will get braver and Marin will probably stay the same. Nellie will learn when it's playtime and when it's "leave me alone time!!" She is a great dog and she gets lots of love and a few extra treats from me when she does a good job! Like a kid, she is growing up too fast and has boundless energy that I wish I still had!
