Frosty Birthday

We had a long and chilly winter this year. The snow came and melted with each passing chinook and the cold came and went with the chinook's as well. We tried to brave the cold weather as best as we could, but we sure spent a lot of time indoors. We took Nellie down to the dog park one very cold afternoon and I was amazed at how the water was steaming as it meandered it's way along the river.

Nellie ran around like a maniac, but for the first time chose NOT to go into the river for a swim!! It must have been cold!! We have seen her in there when ice chunks have been floating by, so it takes a lot for her not to go swimming. She did, however, get quite frosty!!

Calli celebrated her 8th birthday this year with her first sleepover party. She and her friends all rode the bus home with her and when they arrived, they were surprised to see the amazing yarn maze that Adam had created in her room!! He did this once before in Montreal when the kids were a bit too young to appreciate it. He had 4 balls of different coloured yarn, one for each girl, criss-crossed under and over everything in Calli's room. The girls each got a piece of pvc pipe which is what they used to wrap the yarn around as they made their way through the maze!!

Marin didn't participate in the maze, but she was definitely in there supervising and giving instructions! You can see she got a bit tangled in the yarn during her duties!

At the end of each string of yarn was a t-shirt or tank top all rolled up, which the girls used for their next activity...tie-dying!! They each picked out the design and colours they wanted to create on their shirts and Adam did the dying part for them. I would like to have taken photos of the girls wearing their new shirts, but once they were in bed, we washed each shirt separately and air dried them before sending them home with the girls (to save the parents having to do it!)

We decided on a Dairy Queen ice cream cake this year, which was a big hit with the girls!! They especially liked licking the icing off the candles!

Calli opened the gifts that her friends had brought for her and was thrilled with each and every one!

Nothing like a sugary cake high to get them acting crazy! We tried getting them to make their silliest faces! L to R - Grace, Morissa, Blaise (hidden in the crook of Morissa's arm), Calli and Marin who joined in the action too!

And they got crazier.....

...and crazier!! Two of the girls stayed for the sleepover and one girl had to go home. The overnighters had a bit of a late night, and Calli who has issues getting to sleep as it is, abandoned her friends on the bed they'd made on the floor under her loft bed and climbed up into her bed for the night!

It still seems impossible that my little girl is already 8...I remember when she didn't have a care in the world!! Happy 8th Birthday to my beautiful daughter! xoxo

The party is priceless, the faces are hilarious, every
one having fun and a great time.

I remember theyarn maze in Montreal that was a unique and a great way to break the ice, also that everyone was rewarded with gifts at the end.

That water/ice looks very chilly, and now
with the infamous rescue of Nellie yesterday,
hopefully she will...stay out of dangerous
waters when ice is still so high!! NOT!!!
