Time for coffee?

I love going out for a coffee date with my girls. Whether it's the 3 of us together, or if I am lucky enough to go for some one on one time, I cherish our time together. With the busyness of life and school these days, it's hard to come by time for "just the 2 of us."

Before Christmas I got to go out with Marin for a Starbucks coffee date. This was before we had her hair cut off! Look how long it was! She ordered a polar bear cookie and a kids caramel apple cider, her favourite. We sat on the big comfy chairs and chatted about girl stuff.

"Mmmm..."

"Look at all that whipped cream!"

"Delicious!!!"

Next it was Calli's turn! This was after Christmas when the girls had the hair cut off! Calli loves her short hair, but I think she secretly wishes for it to be long again. It finally fit into a poni-tail yesterday and she said, "It sure feels good to have a poni-tail again."

Calli ordered a red velvet cupcake and a caramel apple cider. Calli's observations and conversations are really incredible. She is such a bright and curious little observer. She sees and hears things that you don't realize she's taking in and she can remember so much about the things she learns. She is incredible. I am a lucky, lucky Mum.

Unfortunately, as pretty as the red velvet cupcake was, it wasn't up to Calli's taste standards and she wasn't impressed. It's shocking to discover that something so lovely and with such delicious frosting could result in such a horrible cake experience!!

We admired how red the cake was although I have to admit, for a child who has adverse reactions to coloured food, I was a little worried. I can hear my mother saying, "Just imagine what it's doing to your insides." Luckily, with the 2 little tiny bites Calli did have, we didn't have to worry about her insides!

As has been our ritual for the past 5 years or so, we celebrated the Oscars together again this year. The girls got dressed up...well, Marin did. Calli decided she was going to bed soon anyhow and she didn't feel like getting changed twice, so she wore her fanciest nightie and her new silver faux leather jacket.

We worked a little magic with her short hair and pinned it into an updo and painted her nails. She put on a little lip gloss and it was time to watch the red carpet show!

Marin decided to wear the beautiful silk dress the girls got from Suzanne a few years ago!!! Check out her amazing designs here - Suzabelle. To keep warm, she paired it with a knee length angora and wool cardigan. She also had her nails painted and a little lip gloss to top off the look.

Calli's class didn't have a Christmas concert, but had a Bugz concert in March instead. The children obviously worked very hard on their songs and dances and we had such a great time watching them! The girls were dressed up as little butterflies. Do you see Calli in the purple bodysuit in the middle of the front row? She has a lovely set of white wings that she worried were too big! I'm sure that's the last thing actual butterflies worry about!!

After the concert, she showed us some of her artwork that she'd worked on in class.

After such an amazing performance, we were excited to see Calli on the front page of one of the local newspapers! Cute!!
