Calli moves On

We celebrated Calli's last day at her pre-school on Friday. It was exciting to officially be on summer holidays, but also very sad because she won't be returning to the wonderful Montessori school that she has learned and grown from over the last 2 years. Being a part of the inaugural class from this school will hopefully be something that won't be forgotten for many years. Our whole family has been a big part of getting this new school on it's feet and I'm thrilled that Marin will be joining up in September to enjoy the fruits of our labour!

We had to pack up all the learning materials on Friday to make room for a summer school who will be renting the building over the next few months. The kids were really patient and nearly sat through a movie while the parents packed up the stuff. They eventually got a bit bored and hot from being inside so their wonderful teacher walked them to a corner store to buy Freezies for them!! That was about the best thing that had happened all day!


Saturday was the official graduation for the three oldest girls who will be carrying on to public school. All of the children participated in a lovely closing ceremony and sang some sweet little songs to the audience of parents and grandparents. There was a 60% chance of rain, but we never saw or felt a drop for the entire day!


After the singing, the grads received their diplomas from the teacher and assisted in handing out certificates to the younger students. Calli was having some major issues with her cap and when the teacher went to help Calli, she commented aloud to the audience "It's hard to be fashionable, isn't it Calli?" To which Calli replied, "No, it's just hard to keep my hat on!"

This is the beautiful speech the teacher made about Calli. It's always a great feeling to hear from other people how interesting and talented your child is. I don't think, as parents, we hear these comments often enough.

Marin enjoyed the celebration as well. After all the graduating stuff was over, the kids changed into different clothes and had a great time doing various sports activities. The real highlight was the water balloon toss. I'm not sure any of the kids had ever done it before and they were all squealing with delight, even when they got soaked by the balloons!!

Everyone had gifts for each other and sweet surprises for the kids. Marin was included in everything, which I thought was fantastic! I think it'll help her ease into pre-school in September as she's forming better bonds with her peers.

She found this lovely, shaded spot up in the trees to sit quietly and enjoy her bubbles. Imagine having nothing more in the world to care about than just blowing bubbles? I am envious. It would be so amazing to have the vision and knowledge that I have now, when I was only 3 years old. It would be great to be able to teach our children that being a kid is the most important thing they can do right now, because responsibility and duty and worry and stress come far too quickly these days. Blow bubbles all afternoon and daydream about the possibilities and the places you can go or even better, just think about where those bubbles will end up....floating on the warm whisper of the winds.
