We Braved the Camping Adventure!
During our visit to BC in July, we decided to ask my Mum to see if we could borrow her camper trailer for a month in order to decide if it was something we might like to buy. We managed to bring it all the way home and found a perfect weekend to head out to Kananaskis Country to experience our first camping adventure!
We spent the first night in a fairly open spot with lots of traffic passing by. Adam and Calli found the sun so bright, they decided to change sunglasses.
The campsite we found was incredible, with awesome views of the mountains all around us.
Gorgeous evening sky, looking West from our campsite.
The girls were MOST excited about having a fire and roasting up some marshmallows. Nellie had a nice time camping too and didn't get eaten by any bears.
On our 2nd day camping, we decided to head into Banff for a few hours and walk around. We hit the famous candy story for a little snack and headed back to our camp for dinner.
But not before taking a little trip across the river to see the world famous Banff Springs Hotel. Adam and the girls went inside to see the lobby while we were there...I was too shy.
We had perfect sightseeing weather for our little visit. Adam hadn't been to Banff since he was a kid, so it was an extra special visit for him.
While we were camping, Calli finally figured out how to ride her bike!! It was a very exciting time for all of us! She rode and rode and rode her bike all around the campsite and by the 2nd day, she finally had the hang of it. Adam lowered her seat in order for her to be more comfortable, that's why it looks like her knees are up to her ears in these movies!!
The campground we were at put on a live show each night of the weekend. The first night was a really fantastic show about squirrels! We learned the 5 different species of squirrel that live in Kananaskis Country. The amazing Parks Canada lady who performed the show was hilarious and knowledgeable and extremely entertaining!
Here she is being a news reporter squirrel with breaking news!!
We had a lovely evening at the outdoor amphitheater and the girls were completely enthralled and learned a LOT about squirrels.
Day 2 - Almost got the hang of it. Still pretty tippy, but she was definitely figuring it out.
We stayed an extra night, even though we knew the weather was going to be crappy on our third day. We found a little path to the Bow River and Adam brought along the girls and their fishing rods and his own fly rod. I brought the camera and a wary eye regarding the weather and how fast the storm was approaching.
Calli and Marin kept busy looking for treasures on the shore of the river. The wild flowers were gorgeous out there.
Our 2nd night at the amphitheater. The rain cleared up just in time and we enjoyed the show about recycling in the forest. We (re)learned the importance of recycling and the many ways that the forest recycles itself. Once again, we had a hilarious Parks Canada teacher/guide/entertainer and a fantastic evening.
This video is hilarious. On our last morning of camping, Calli gobbled up her breakfast and headed out in the pouring rain for one last bike ride before we packed up and headed home. Adam and I were laughing at how funny it was that she seemed to be oblivious to the rain and thunder and happy as a clam riding her bike!!
So after our long weekend of camping, we are certain that we would like to camp again. The girls had a lot of fun and so did Adam and I. We'll see what the future holds for us. Happy Camping!

Adam and Marin testing their luck.

An evening looking towards the mountains.
