Kids Race
The day before the Barkerville Rush Relay there was a kids race that Calli and Marin competed in! We registered them and they got t-shirts and pinnies with numbers on them. We pinned the numbers on their shirts and they were all geared up to go. They practiced running around with Grace and Emma, their cousins, and did a few handstands before we headed to the start line. Calli and Marin were in different age categories, but they started together.
When they called, "GO!" both girls started running with the crowd up the path through the trees, but Marin got confused and tried turning back! I'm not sure she understood what was actually happening...so much for keeping her informed!
Pretty soon, the little ones started trickling in. Some were with their parents who were allowed to run with them and some were by themselves. Marin came in in the middle somewhere and got a medal for participating!
Being the girl who doesn't like that kind of attention, she ripped the medal off about 3 seconds after it was placed on her neck.
Calli came in the middle of her pack of runners and was so cute with her flushed cheeks! She received a medal as well and proceeded to tell us all about one little boy who kept cutting corners on the way back to the finish line.
After all the runners were in, they were treated to juice and cookies and an awards ceremony where they gave ribbons and prizes to the fastest runners from each category.
The next day when we were driving back home, Marin asked, "Mum, when is our actual race going to be??" Does this mean she didn't even try??? Can't wait to see what next year brings!!
While I was running my leg of the race, Granny and Adam took the girls gold panning in Barkerville. They apparently had SUCH a great time doing it and barely 2 minutes after I arrived across the finish line I got to see their vials of gold!
Granny made sure the girls went through all the little shops in Barkerville and of course, they stopped at the candy shops!!

Calli looks pretty impressed with the whole thing!!
Granny managed to talk Adam and Calli into having their picture taken, old-fashioned style. Calli LOVED getting all dressed up in the fancy outfit and posing for the picture. Marin would have nothing to do with having the photo done and preferred standing and watching instead. Oh well, there's always next time!!
