Mish Mash Catch-up!
We drove in to the city for a picnic the other day. We had full intentions of heading to a park to play, but decided it was too cold to venture outside of the car. Apparently, we have become acclimatized to the gorgeous coastal BC weather!! Needless to say, we stayed in the car and ate our picnic that Adam had lovingly prepared for us!
Marin didn't really participate in all the goodness of the picnic. She enjoyed her cracker, but wouldn't touch the pickles or cheese. She ate all of her yogurt knowing she would get Smarties afterwards! She is a Smartie bandit, this girl!! She tends to put all the Smarties from the mini-packet into her mouth at one time, resulting in a messy, gooey, drool-y disaster. She tries stuffing them all back in, only to get the goo on her hands and then proceeds to touch almost everything in her range. FUN!!
Calli will take any opportunity to stand up in the car, so she LOVED her picnic, but was quite disappointed that we didn't go out to play. Even though we told her it was too cold, she could still see all the other people out in the park....all bundled up....looking freezing??!!!
In the end we decided to go to a great big market downtown and get some fresh produce to take home. Even though it was cold, we got quite a haul for only $40!! We purchased the biggest head of cauliflower that I have ever seen, for only $3.00!!!
Marin and Calli both love their DoodlePro magnetic drawing board. Calli spends hours drawing people after people after people. Marin now waits until Calli moves on to something new, before claiming the board for herself and making her own scribbly pictures! She too, could sit for 1/2 an hour or more and doodle. This is her latest discovery...laying down makes the board that much closer and has less risk of falling off the table!!!
Lastnight, our friend Erica came over for supper. She brought dessert!!!!! I know just looking at them doesn't do them any justice at all...but they were to die for!!
Beginning clockwise from the top left corner: Raspberry and Vanilla (bean seeds were visible) mousse. Light and completely unassuming! There was just enough vanilla to taste it, but not enough to overpower the delicate flavour of the raspberries!!
Next, the Profiteroles. These little morsels were sitting in a little pool of chocolate and were covered in crushed hazelnuts! Inside the pastry was a fantastic filling of perfect chocolate! Sometimes chocolate can be too rich or strong, but the filling inside these profiteroles was p-e-r-f-e-c-t!!!
The third piece was a pure chocolate heaven cake (in my own words)!! It had a crunchy wafer-like bottom to it, and when eaten, reminded of us of Ferrero Rocher chocolates!!! Delectable!!
The last was a Chocolate and Orange Millefeuille!! Millefeuille meaning million layers... It too was amazing. The custard was orange flavoured and there was lovely crunchy (millefeuille) pastry layered throughout... We enjoyed the desserts immensely with a homemade latte!!
Supper was nothing to write home about, but the dessert was definitely worth the wait!
